MY OWN CORRECTION

BBC WEBPAGE

I loved the BBC webpage, is very interesting and funny. I visited a link where I can complete songs of different singers like Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, and Michael Jackson. Another link that I visited was Grammar and Vocabulary but, (WO) these did not like me, I think that it was very bored, because (WO) is so slowly download the listening part and also the computers at the university are not the best. But now my favorite part; (MS) Quizzes, when I discovered this link, I only play this (WW) games (WW) all the first part of the class. At the first moment I (WW) made Crosswords but it was (WW) difficult because only (WW) talk about marketing words, that I (WT) do not know. Later I played a game that named “WordMaster” (P) where you have to guess (WW) the word from the clues to (WW) score points, (P) my best (WW) pointed was 15.000!!!. Also was a game that was not very funny, but helped to know about the British Isles, the game (WW) travel round about them.

Alhué´s Fieldtrip

My Favourite Fieldtrip was the last one. We come to Alhué, 3 hours from Santiago to the southwest. Is a little town called Villa Alhué that has serious problems of pollution, caused by a mining that waste dumps in the river. We went there to investigate the effects of the mining on the environment. Sadly the effects are easily to see, the biodiversity decrease, the beekeeping it is over, and the water in the river is orange in some places.
The fieldtrip was amazing because we entered in private’s properties and we had to stay very quiet if anybody looked the surroundings we had to run very fast to any hideout. But was incredible to discover the orange hidden waste, really really hidden, we had to crossing the river and walk kilometres to find it. And was not the only, others guys find another few kilometres further. Then the teacher brought some appliances to measured electric conductivity, pH, dissolved solids, and with a shovel the guys took samples of sediments in the river. Now we have to analyze the samples in laboratory to show the effects of the mining in this part of the river. The next Field Trip will go to the higher part of the river, further than the withdrawal mining, there, we think, the conditions are the best, without the mining pollution.

Correction - About me and my Family

ABOUT ME AND MY FAMILY
Hi my name is Catalina, I’m 21 years old. I live with my mother and my sister, we live in Santiago since 2005, when I entered the University. Before, we lived in many islands of the Chiloé Archipelago, because my father worked in aquaculture. Now my father is living in Puerto Aysén farther south than Chiloé, and has a new family with Paty, his new wife, and Bastián my little brother, he is 2 years old. My mother is a obstetrician, but while we living in Chiloé she didn´t work because, there had not hospitals, and we were far from the city. But when we arrived to Santiago in 2005, she decided to study again at the University and joined to Catholic University of Chile and studied Nursery. She only studied during two years because the University could approved some subjects from the Obstetrician career. Now she work in the Sótero del Rio Hospital. My sister is 18 years old, and 2008 is the last year at school, and she is deciding what career to study. But she is very confused. I think that, it will be better If she use next year to think and be convinced. About me, I´m studying Geography at University of Chile, and this is my fourth year. I`m very happy with the career and I hope to get the license at the end of the year, and enter to the laboralmarket soon. My hobby today is go out of the city as daily as I can, at the Mountains, rivers, or beach.

Truth * Beauty * Freedom * Love

My favorite film is Moulin Rouge, and I saw it for the first time in 2002, in my Summer Holidays. I saw the film in my aunt´s apartment, eating pizza and drinking coca-cola. I still remember, me and my aunt cried like a baby with the romantic and sad end.

The film is the story of Christian (Ewan McGregor), a handsome, young writer, goes against his father's wishes and moves to Montmartre, Paris. It's the perfect atmosphere for an aspiring young writer who yearns for a freer, more bohemian lifestyle. He meets the artist, Toulouse-Lautrec. Teaming up with the acting troupe living upstairs and headed by Lautrec, Christian meets and falls hard for the featured star of the Moulin Rouge, Satine, “The Sparkling Diamond”. Together with Lautrec's actors, Satine and Christian create "Spectacular, Spectacular", a play that Satine hopes will make her a star. Financing is an issue and Satine's boss, Zidler, pins his hopes on a Duke. The Duke agrees to finance the play, and a renovation of the Moulin Rouge, in exchange for a contract that binds Satine to him. Christian and Satine's love must stay hidden to ensure the play will debut. Their love becomes the main storyline for the play within the movie, and allows Satine and Christian to continue their forbidden relationship under the nose of the Duke.

This film is Spectacular, Spectacular, was the first DVD that I bought. I see it as long as I can.

En el rodeo e` Los Andes ....

Normally typical Chileans do a barbacue, with potatoes and very different salads, In my case Chilean salad (tomato with onion and sometimes persley), lettuce, celery, etc. Have to be light salads because eat meat all days is very heavy. For fun usually some people raise comets or play typical games, “rayuela, emboque, and palo ensebado”, the last consist in to climb a very tall stick covered with wax, it is very difficult but many Chileans can do this.

When I was a child I woke up very early and wear a “china custome” and go to the farm with my father to raise comets, and to view Chilean rodeos. Late we go to any “fonda” for dance “cueca” the Chilean typical dance.

Nowadays my family live together in Santiago, so we organized a big “Fonda in the House”, we conditioning the garden of the house and everyone in the family have to use a “typical costume” the last year I dressed like a Mapuche and my sister like an Atacameña.
Always sing Chileans songs in a karaoke and play games, like “put the tail to the donkey”, “If you know the song, sing it” or “Who burst more balloons in 1 minute”, this are not typical games but we have a lot of fun, always we invite friends and neighbours. We always cook choripan with pebre (very Chilean snack).

My favourite 18 was the last because my father could came from Puerto Aysén and we can stay together for 5 five days, and we have a lot of fun remembering the previous 18 in Chiloé, very different, by the way. But this theme is for another post.

Five years from Now ...

Professionally I think I will be working in some organism linked to renewable and clean energies, something linked to sustainable development. Maybe, working with wind or geothermic energy. But, If my wishes come true I will be in another place, studying and investigating about the same theme for apply my knowledge in Chile later. I would like study as long as possible, because I am afraid to confront the world of work, I think that is very rude and competitive. I prefer to investigate.
Personally, I think that the personally scope, for me, depends on the professionally scope. Because If I will live in another country, my system of life will be different. So while I am studying I prefer me and my myself, without material or non-material things that depends on me. Obviously that I want to have a family and a house, and kids, dogs and cats. But not yet, I am too young for this now and in ten years I will be young too. I would like to live in California, because is a perfect place to learn about clean energies. Maybe in San Francisco or San Diego.

My English Experience

The first time that I heard something in english, I was a little child and I didn´t want to eat my lunch, My aunt that is a very funny woman said: If I sing for you, You Will eat your luch? And she started to dance and sing the hits of Madonna and The Police, and I felt wondered with this, (obviously that I ate all my luch) since this moment I always hear english songs, from movies I heard the songs and copy the lyrics in a notebook and in this way I could make more sensitive my ear and learn english. Years later, I went to live to the island and in the rural schools the teachers didnt learn English, so my dad that learned English with a course because he need it for his job (all of the managers of the company where he worked were scotish) teach me somethings like animals, vegetables, the numbers, vocabulary. When I moved to the city and go to a city school my English level was horrible, so I study English a little bit every day, because the teachers dind´t have compassion with the island girl. Then my English level increased and I finished with the best marks of my class, so I bored all the time, because the teachers every year taught the same things, and sing the same songs (kid´s songs) like The Seasons, Over the Rainbow, They used a book named Sesame Street (was about Muppets) when I was 10 years old Iwas happy with this book, but later I think that the book was a stupid thing. When I go to the secondary school I moved to another school where the English level was worst. So I didn´t learn too much. Now at the University I can practice more, because every week I learn something new and is more interactive than my first experiences.

Review and Correct a Post

The Geography (original)

Well I’m student of geography of the University of Chile. My history with geography begun when I did the PSU test and my percentage I do not reach for study I like in this moment, history. My second option was geography however I don’t regret.

In the University I studied for four year and the next year I have that work of geographer and I look forward working in that I like. Physical geography for example.

In this years the principal subject that I have liked are they that deal this items, the nature, and the evolution of the earth and the principal feature of the surface.

Well I look forward working in these items in ten years like an all professional. Dedicated to use my knowledge and tools for do something in this planet.

The geographers have the necessary tools to make public to world how our planet suffers today. The geographers around world are silent for the disasters that have lot countries in the world in special Africa, American central and countries Asian.

The geographers have given to politicians the administration of the natural resource and they lost environmental north.

In conclusion the Earth died and the geographers have mush to do.

Well I’m student of geography of the University of Chile. My history with geography beginning when I did the PSU test and my score was insufficient for study what I like in this moment, history. My second option was geography however I don’t regret.

In this years the principal subject that I liked are linked to the nature, and the evolution of the earth and the principal feature of the surface.

Well I hope to work in these items in ten years like a complete professional. Dedicated to use my knowledge and tools for do something in this planet.

The geographers have the necessary tools to make public to world how our planet suffers today. The geographers around the world are silent for the disasters that have a lot countries in the world in special Africa, Central American and Asian Countries.

Why Why Why?

Why are you studying Geography?

Sincerily I didn´t know what was Geography, In 2005 I preffered study Anthropology but my score in PSU was no enough, so I search this chance, in the first semester the subjects incluided Sociology and Anthropology and then I chose Geography.

Why did you decide to study Geography?

When the time was passing while I hope the year ends soon to chose another carreer, Geopraphy shows me its capacity of watch the Earth with a new perspective, looking the space where we live and its complexity.

What will you be doing (professionally) in 10 years time?

I think I will be working in some organism linked to Conservation of Environment or extinction species, something linked to nature. Maybe, preventing natural threats, natural risk. But, If my wishes come true I will be in another place, studying and investigating for apply my knowledge in Chile later.

How can geographers help save the planet?

I think that the only way to save the planet from our discipline is making conscience of the damage caused by the economic activities. Making expositions and showing the terrible effects of the abuse of Natural Resources.

What tools will the geographer of the future need to have?

I think that the best tool of a geographer is its "eyes" and the analysis that will do with the observations. The best quality of a geographer is the capacity of associate the objects is his observations, and see them like a little part of a big system. Now, viewing this question from the techonologic development for a geographer is indispensable know about GIS.

What is your favourite subject?
My favourite subject at the moment is Soil`s Geography, but I always change.

Dalai Lama

I would like to have a date with Dalai Lama, I was always interested in him, and since I was a child I loved his tunics and the tranquility that inspires. I admire him because he is a man who fights for the peace in the world, for example in September 1987 he proposed the Five Point Peace Plan for Tibet as the first step towards a peaceful solution to the worsening situation in Tibet. When I was a child My mom always read me some of the reflections of this holly man. For example about Laws of Nature he said that he deeply believe that human beings are gentle with nature, and he feel that we should not only maintain peaceful and gentle with our fellow human being, also is very important to extend the same kind of attitude to the other alive being, with our natural environment. We should be concerned for our whole environment. So If someday I could talk with him, I would like talk about the relationship between the humans and the environment. I would like to see him in a place without city noises, to hear the sounds of nature like the sea, birds and animals.

My favourite english song

At the moment and every day my favourite english song is Patience of Guns and Roses, because is very romantic and it is very honest. The first time that I listened that song I was in the school, and I loved it from the first chord. The music is very lovely and relaxing, the singer, Axl Rose, in some moments during the song, whistle and makes the song very special. This song identifies me a lot, my boyfriend was living out of Chile during two years, and always he sing me this song. Patience, brought me a lot of goods and bad memories. This is one of few ones unplugged songs of Guns and Roses.

The song talks about a couple that are separated and he said to him that they need is just a little patience and they will be together fine...

“Said, sugar, make it slow, And we come together fine, All we need is just a little patience”. This is my favourite part of the song.

Lyrics
Patience - Guns and Roses
There is no doubt
You're in my heart now
Said, woman, take it slow
It'll work itself out fine
All we need is just a little patience
Said, sugar, make it slow
And we come together fine
All we need is just a little patience
(patience)
Mm, yeah

I sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now
I'll wait, dear
Sometimes I get so tense
But I can't speed up the time
But you know, love
There's one more thing to consider

Said, woman, take it slow
And things will be just fine
You and I'll just use a little patience
Said, sugar, take the time
'Cause the lights are shining bright
You and I've got what it takes
To make it, We won't fake it,
I'll never break it
'cause I can't take it

...little patience, mm yeah, mm yeah
need a little patience, yeah
just a little patience, yeah
some more patience, yeah
need some patience, yeah
could use some patience, yeah
gotta have some patience, yeah
all it takes is patience,
just a little patience
is all you need*

I been walkin' the streets at night
just tryin' to get it right
hard to see with so many around
you know I don't like
being stuck in the crowd
and the streets don't change
but baby the name
I ain't got time for the game
'cause I need you
yeah, yeah, but i need you
oo, I need you
whoa, I need you
oo, all this time
(ah)

My favourite place in Chile

I love this place, I have a lot of sweet memories there... Chiloé

When I was five years me and my family moved to this island in the south of Chile, my father said that we would live in the country with a lot of animals, we were very happy.

From the moment that I entered in the ferry that would carry us to the island, I felt the magic that everybody rumor. It´s so incredible beauty, the mix between the forest and the ocean, extremely together, the typical food, and every thing there. But the most important thing there, was the beautiful people that I knew there. My best friends are “chilotes”, the short history of my life was made there and now that I´m studying Geography this experience is very valuable. Me and me friends every summer go to different place in the island. For example this summer we were in Cucao, a place in the southwest of Chiloe, there we went to the “Moonfest”, a party that celebrate the first full moon of February. Was a lot of people a lot of them tourists, it was funny. All people singing at the moonlight. Few days later we went to San Pedro´s river, a very lovely place, very quiet and sunny. We had fruits, juices, and cakes, was a fantastic day.

From 2005 I lived once again in Santiago, we moved here because I finish the school and I have to go to University. But every holidays I go to Chiloe, and I will never get tired of going.
